Fleishman-Hillard was delighted at the success of the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health’s annual Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 4-10) this year. In addition to coordinating MIAW for the seventh consecutive year, FH was a major sponsor of the week-long campaign to increase awareness of mental illness and mental health issues across Canada.
The week culminated on October 7 with the Annual Champions of Mental Health Awards in Ottawa. The evening honoured Canadians who have demonstrated a profound commitment to advancing the mental health agenda in this country. The event was an enormous success. The participation of a large number of parliamentarians at this year’s event was testimony to the progress MIAW and the Face Mental Illness Campaign have made in building the support among policy makers.
This year’s awards recipients included the Hon. Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of Defence Staff, and Ms. Margaret Trudeau. As a proud sponsor of MIAW and the Champions of Mental Health Awards, Fleishman-Hillard was delighted to participant in this prestigious event.
“Now more than ever, we need to get people talking about mental illness and do everything we can to reduce the stigma attached to this subject. With one in five Canadians are affected by mental health issues, we are all touched by it in some way,” says Michael von Herff, Senior Vice President and Regional Director of Fleishman-Hillard. “This year’s awards gala has really helped to keep mental illness on the map as something that cannot be ignored by those of us in business or among the political leadership of our country. Fleishman-Hillard is committed to this cause and will continue to do what we can to help Canadians Face Mental Illness.”
